Scope of this Paper

This document concentrates on domain sales between $300 and $5,000 resale value. This is primarily for four reasons:

  1. It is likely that only a few hundred domains per year sell for more than $5,000.

  2. Domains priced over $5,000 are likely to be less than 1% of the aftermarket domain stock.

  3. Credit card transactions are typically restricted to purchases less than $5,000 due to credit card fraud. This makes it hard to consider domains over $5,000 as being of the mass market.

  4. Domains priced under $300 have prohibitively low commission values and low volume. These factors make low value transactions closer to incremental clearance sales rather than value adding transactions.
